George Jones Picture
By most accounts, George Jones is the finest vocalist in the recorded history of country music. Initially, he was a hardcore honky tonker in the tradition of Hank Williams, but over the course of his career he developed an affecting, nuanced ballad style. In the course of his career, he never left the top of the country charts, even as he suffered innumerable personal and professional difficulties. Only Eddy Arnold had more Top Ten hits, and Jones always stayed closer to the roots of hardcore country. Jones was born and raised in east Texas, near the city of Beaumont.

A Few Ole Country Boys (With Randy Travis) Lyrics

George Jones

George Jones & Randy Travis
(Randy)
Not too many years ago
When dreams weren't comin' true
I'd reach for inspiration
Sometimes it would be you.
I'd hear you on the radio
I sure did like your sound
Say its good to know
There is still a few ol' country boys around.
(George)
From the smoke its hard to tell
What's coming down the line
We heard you were a fast train
Coming out of Caroline.
We wondered what were you were haulin'
When you rode into town
Say it's good to know
There is still a few ol' country boys around.
(Randy & George)
You must have felt that same ol' feeling
More than once or twice
Guitars pressed against our hearts
Under the neon lights.
(George)
I've got to say that feeling
Is the best that I have found
Lord its good to know
There is still a few ol' country boys around.
(Randy)
There's a lot of truth ya know
In our kind of songs
About the life your living
And how love's done you wrong.
(George)
As long as there's a jukebox
And a honkytonkin' town
It's good to know
There is still a few ol' country boys around.
(Randy)
It's good to know
There is still a few ol' country boys around...
