George Jones Picture
By most accounts, George Jones is the finest vocalist in the recorded history of country music. Initially, he was a hardcore honky tonker in the tradition of Hank Williams, but over the course of his career he developed an affecting, nuanced ballad style. In the course of his career, he never left the top of the country charts, even as he suffered innumerable personal and professional difficulties. Only Eddy Arnold had more Top Ten hits, and Jones always stayed closer to the roots of hardcore country. Jones was born and raised in east Texas, near the city of Beaumont.

Blue Side Of Lonesome Lyrics

George Jones

Im calling to tell you its over
Yes Darling, youre now free to go
Youre saying youre sorry you hurt me
But you can't hurt me no more, I know.
Youre asking me where this call comes from
Oh, I hope that it wont interfere
If your new romance turns out a failure
Well, heres where to find me my dear.
Im just on the blue side of lonesome
Right next to the heartbreak hotel
In a tavern thats known as Three Tear Drops
On a bar stool not doin so well.
The floor has a carpet of sorrow
But no one can weep in the aisle
And they say someone broke the bar mirror
With only the ghost of a smile.
The hands on the clock never alter
For things never change in the place
Theres no present, no past, no future
Were the ones who have lost in lifes race.
Im just on the blue side of lonesome
Right next to the heartbreak hotel
In a tavern thats known as Three Tear Drops
On a bar stool not doin so well...
